Continuing Education Credits
In Vermont, the decision to allow relicensure credit for professional development activities of Vermont employed educators resides with local and regional standards boards. The policy for approval of continuing education credits was established by the Vermont Standards Board for Professional Educators (VSBPE). Professional development providers should furnish each participant with a certificate of attendance including the number of hours, content, and objectives. Fifteen contact hours generally equal one credit.

  • Teachers and administrators currently employed in a Vermont school would submit the certificate to their local/regional standards board.
  • Participants not currently teaching would submit the certificate to the department's Licensing Office when they submit all their materials for renewal.

Educators may ask their board to pre-approve a specific activity for credit. In order to receive approval, the professional development activity must relate to the goals of an educator’s individual professional development plan (IPDP) and represent new learning for the participant.
