INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (IT)

The Information Technology (IT) division serves the department in its networking, system development and data administration needs. The IT division is made up of three teams:

Network Administration
This team designs, configures and installs the department’s local area network hardware and software. The members of this team set up personal computers, individual software, network applications, printers, servers, routers and other related hardware and software. In addition, this team is responsible for designing guidelines that describe the proper usage of the department's network, security and backup procedures.

Database Administration and System Development
This team is responsible for the development of the department's Oracle system, storage of the department’s data, ensuring the integrity of the data, performance of database backup and recovery, and monitoring the performance of the system. The members of this team also create software applications for collecting data and are responsible for developing guidelines around data access and database security.

Data Management and Analysis
This team manages the department’s core data collections by consulting with data users and system developers in the creation of data collection materials and data reports, ensures that the collected data meets the requirements of the department, develops procedures to improve the accuracy and timeliness of the department’s data and supplies training to data providers in the field. The members of this team perform data analysis as required for preparing data for storage in the Oracle database and are responsible for the operation of the IT helpdesk. In addition, this team designs guidelines regarding data use and ownership.

  School Data and Reports
View reports based on data submitted by school districts/supervisory unions. Each report targets specific information for all towns/schools in Vermont.
   
  Data Collections and Training Materials (Updated 11/18/09)
During each fiscal year, the department collects data from Vermont's supervisory unions and school districts. In addition, the department provides training to help school professionals provide this data. This area provides access to training materials, data collection instructions and forms for submitting data to the department.
